Larissa Raine (RSW, BSW, MAC, C.C.C., DWHEAT Candidate) is a counselor, Registered Social Worker (RSW) and art therapist (candidate) in Regina, SK.

She works with children, adolescents, and adults navigating a variety of mental health issues. Many of Larissa’s clients come in to seek help who are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and loneliness.

Larissa is particularly passionate about serving women and adolescents navigating matters of their mental health, as well as adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. She is passionate about art therapy and how it can be a vehicle to deeper self-exploration and healing for her clients: regardless of their perceived artistic ability.

Larissa’s style is down to earth, strengths based, and client centered. When a client first comes in, time is spent exploring the client’s unique needs and helping empower the client to be the navigator of their own road map. The treatment plan is made using evidence-based theories. In conjunction with the client, Larissa acts as a support and fellow traveler to empower the client’s therapeutic journey. Larissa provides a relationship that is safe, compassionate and nonjudgmental.

Larissa received her BSW at the University of Regina, and after serving immigrant and refugee families and youth in the Regina

Public School system, she went on to complete a Master of Counseling from Providence Theological Seminary. She gained experience at the Central Collegiate, Regina Open Door Society, Saskatoon Alternative Initiatives (SAI), and North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS). Each of these places have equipped her to work with varying demographics based on immediate and long-term client needs. Outside of private practice, Larissa loves to run, read, paint, and spend time with her family and 2-year-old poodle, Chai.

I am dedicated to supporting individuals to thrive in the life story they find themselves in, while working alongside them to achieve their goals, find healing and joy. I utilize evidence based theories such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Somatic Therapy, and Art Therapy to meet the client's needs and goals, all in conjunction with the client. I believe that being truly seen and heard is a desire of every human, and is part of the power of healing. I strive to counsel and support in a holistic and authentic way with each client to support their journey, no matter where they find themselves.

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy combines the creative process and psychotherapy, facilitating self-exploration and understanding. Using imagery, colour and shape as part of this creative therapeutic process, thoughts and feelings can be expressed that would otherwise be difficult to articulate.

Art therapists facilitate a non-verbal means for individuals to connect with and express thoughts and feelings that are difficult to communicate due to the person’s age or challenging experiences such as trauma, cognitive issues or physical health conditions. Through the use of art-making, discussions and reflections on the artwork, and relationship building, art therapists support individuals in problem-solving, developing insights and self-awareness, improving self-esteem, managing stress, and enhancing interpersonal skills
